America Succeeds Updates

America Succeeds Updates: June 2020

The America Succeeds team stands in solidarity with the Black community. Black Lives Matter.

In the last few months, crisis layered upon crisis has inflicted and deepened collective trauma everywhere and especially in Black communities – our schools are not immune. This moment continues to shine a light on racism and its imprint on our society and systems. Massive inequities continue to persist for students of color, their families, and communities.

We have been taking this time to listen, learn, and reflect. We do our work because we believe education system-change can be a powerful lever in building a world where all individuals can thrive. There is much more to do. We realize that we have left a lot unsaid about equity, thinking it was implied in our portfolio of work.

Our team is committed to ensuring anti-racism and equity are considered in every aspect of our culture, strategy, and larger goals. We are working to ensure this is not simply implied, but unquestionably recognizable as part of America Succeeds.

Sincerely,

America Succeeds Updates

Before these crises, America Succeeds saw an opportunity to enhance affiliate and partner engagement, build momentum, and deepen the impact of our work. We are undergoing a strategic planning process with our board of directors, and expect to complete this process in October 2020. Updates and additional details will be available soon.

In the meantime, our team is focused on how COVID-19 will impact the coming school year and education systems long term. We’re working to identify policy solutions to address budget cuts, emotional trauma, and access to technology, among the many other issues exacerbated during this time. We are also analyzing the most agile responses to school shutdowns, with aims to promote and scale promising practices in the future. If you would like to learn more about these projects or have ideas and resources to share, please contact a member of our team. Reports and updates about this work will be available in the fall.

EDventure Cancellation

Given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s EDventure summit, scheduled for September 23-25, 2020. We will greatly miss seeing everyone in Boise this year. We look forward to connecting again in the future.
