America Succeeds Update: June 2021

Hey there,

We hope your summer is off to a great start! In the past couple of months, we’ve been up to a lot here at America Succeeds. The support for our initiatives, Durable Skills and Equity in Education, grows every day, and we hope, with your help, it will continue to blossom.

Warmly,
America Succeeds

Durable Skills

In an era when technical skills are evolving at an unprecedented pace, there is an important set of durable ‘soft skills’ that last throughout an entire career—how we use what we know (critical thinking, communication, etc.) and our character skills.

America Succeeds’ Durable Skills initiative seeks to ensure every individual is prepared with the soft skills necessary for success in the workforce regardless of educational attainment, career path, or industry sector.

“I can honestly say to you that I would not be sitting here as the CEO and co-founder of Symba without leveraging the power of durable skills,” Ahva Sadeghi, Co-founder and CEO of Symba.

Equity in Education

At the heart of our work is an unwavering belief that education system change can be a powerful lever in building a world where all individuals can thrive. Addressing systemic racism in the structure, policies, and practices of our education system is not only the right thing to do but also a critical part of building our talent and leadership pipelines.

With this initiative our goals are two-fold: to elevate the promising practices and policies that can reverse current trends and engage business leaders in accelerating the impact of BIPOC-led organizations working to achieve educational equity.

We’re thrilled to welcome Branch Alliance for Educator Diversity, America Forward, Code.org, the Center for Black Educator Development, Committee for Children, and the Charles Schwab Foundation as early partners in this initiative. We’re also excited to be announcing more partners in the coming weeks!

“For companies that are really looking to seek the best talent to be able to serve their true purpose, you have to start early. And that means investing in education,” Casey Cortese, Sr. Managing Director of the Charles Schwab Foundation and Schwab Community Services.

Introducing the Coolest High School in Los Angeles

Here at America Succeeds, we’re big consumers of stories about the latest happenings in education policy. And our love of live music means we also tend to stay on top of music news. Say those two topics collide and then there’s a little bit of ‘teaching kids about entrepreneurship’ sprinkled in – well, that definitely gets our attention. Learn more here.
