Durable Skills

Introducing Beable: Where Career-Connected Literacy® Meets Durable Skills

Durable skills don’t develop in a vacuum. Before a student can demonstrate critical thinking, communicate persuasively, or collaborate across difference, they need foundational literacy skills to unlock those skills fully. That connection, between literacy and long-term workforce readiness, is at the heart of our new partnership with Beable.

Beable is the Career-Connected Literacy platform serving K-12 students and adult learners across the country. Through personalized, career-aligned reading experiences, Beable helps students build literacy while simultaneously developing the durable skills that employers consistently rank as their highest priorities. The platform is built on a simple but powerful insight: literacy isn’t separate from workforce readiness. It is the foundation of it.

What This Partnership Makes Possible

Through this partnership, Beable has embedded the Pathsmith® Durable Skills Framework directly into the learning experience, giving educators a relevant, employer-informed way to connect literacy instruction to what matters most to students: their futures. For the first time, educators can access Beable’s proven Career-Connected Literacy platform along with a nationally recognized durable skills framework, creating a richer, more measurable path to workforce readiness.

This is especially important because districts across the country are being asked to deliver on durable skills without easy access to the tools, language, or infrastructure to do it consistently. Our Beyond the Portrait policy scan found that while 26 states have formalized a Portrait of a Graduate that names durable skills as critical to their futures, only 7 require students to actually demonstrate them as a condition of graduation. So while the vision is widespread, the curriculum and assessment infrastructure to deliver on it is still rare. Beable’s integration of the Pathsmith® framework closes that gap, giving educators a practical path from aspiration to action to real world outcomes.

Built for Every Learner, Across Every Level

One of the things that makes this partnership distinctive is its reach. Beable’s platform is designed to meet learners at their just right reading level, across elementary, secondary, and post-secondary settings. For K-12 educators and district administrators, the integration of the Pathsmith® framework means durable skills development is woven directly into literacy instruction rather than treated as a separate initiative. Students encounter these skills in the context of real content areas, including history, science, and career exploration, helping them not only develop the skills but also visualize how those skills show up in the working world.

For colleges and trade schools, Beable’s custom curriculum capabilities open additional doors. Career-Connected Literacy accelerates work readiness by strengthening literacy through career-relevant learning and building the durable skills students need to succeed. This approach is well suited to enrollment management, TRIO, and Summer Bridge programs.

A Shared Belief That Skills Unlock Career Success and Mobility

America Succeeds and Beable share a common belief that students who develop durable, career-ready skills are better positioned for long-term economic mobility. This partnership puts that belief directly into the hands of learners by pairing one of the most critical foundational skills, literacy, with the durable skills framework that employers across the country use to define and measure workforce readiness.

For districts and institutions looking to make the case for career-connected learning with school boards, community partners, and funders, this partnership offers both the research backing and the practical tools to do it easily and effectively.
